Pakenham Primary School – English
A bit about our English & Literacy programs at Pakenham Primary
English at Pakenham Primary School is a balanced approach, involving reading, writing, phonics, and speaking and listening. All students participate in at least two hours of explicit literacy learning each day. Phonics is taught using Jolly Phonics, which is a synthetic and multi-sensory program to teach the 42 letter sounds. Our staff teach reading using the CAFE (Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, Expand Vocabulary) and Daily 5 programs, enabling our students to build the skills needed to successfully understand and respond to literature. In writing, students are exposed to a wide range of exemplar texts and work with staff to break down and construct high quality written pieces. In all areas of English, students work in fluid learning groups, with lessons differentiated to meet their differing needs.
